MTTS#5:Albuquerque, NM to Amarillo, TX
Total Daily Drive Time: 5.5 hours or 289 miles (8:00am – 5:00pm)
Main Route Synopsis: Bring your sunglasses, turn on the air conditioning, slip in your favorite CD’s and drink plenty of H20 as you slowly wind your way into Texas. The temperatures will heat up, but so will MINI Takes the States as we begin to feel the Texas vibe. The Northern Texas panhandle is home to cattle ranches and endless fields. Think cowboys and BBQ’s and you’ve got the scene in mind. Now where is that next rest stop?
Special Events: Giant magazine invites MTTS participants to join us for movie night at Pioneer Amphitheater in breathtaking Palo Duro Canyon State Park for 500 MINI’s. Yeh! Yeh! I’m sure you want to know what movie, but we’re still ironing out the details so stay tuned.
Points of Interest: Santa Fe
Off The Beaten Path: From Albuquerque, drive North on I-25 to Santa Fe, then on to Las Vegas, NM and finally back to I-40 via routes 104 and 129 for the duration to Amarillo.
Fun Facts: Amarillo has the world’s largest helium well

So, Ian – are you all guys tending to travel in groups, leaving at different times, or how is that happening in real life on MTTS ? a regular 9 am departure……….different each day……some independant drivers………. or what?

Some people are in packs, some alone – and packs come & go … Wednesday to the Grand Canyon I was with 5 or 6; Thursday I was only with George/Jane and today, wanting to get here early, I travelled alone.
