July 24, 2006:
More GPs on their way
Last week I found that my GP had been loaded onto the Liberty, on its way to New York - accompanied by 38 other GPs.
Tonight I’ve learned that another batch of 46 GPs are on a second Wallenius Wilhelmsen boat, the Trianon, due to arrive in New York a couple of days after the Liberty:

In total, that makes 85 GPs - the correct number originally planned for early delivery at the Monterey & Jersey City locations!

I’m wondering if there really will be approx. 40 GPs at each special delivery location. Originally MINI planned on 85 GPs to be available for special delivery so the question now is - are they sending all 85 MINIs over for owners or are they just sending them because that’s the number originally planned.
I had heard that about 40 GPs would take part in the special delivery but I thought that number was for both and it just might mean that Monterey filled up.
We’ll know half the answer in a little more than three weeks. : )

I wondered too, Todd - I suspect that the cars were coming over no matter what, with the build / ship planning set up some time ago.
Perhaps “spare” early delivery GPs will show up as dealership demo cars - assuming there’s still unsold allocation (MoP say they have one slot unsold)

Ok, just got word that 38 GPs plus or minus 1 would be delivered in Monterey. I think info has been changing a bit but that was from a reliable source. I imagine if one of us e-mailed the event company they’d tell us - duh.
I am impressed and glad that there will be a “full house” of GP owners in Monterey funny that only about a dozen of us have shown our faces. : )
Also, there will be one or two MINI USA GPs or press cars, if you will, taking part in MTTS.
I believe about five GPs will be on rotation throughout the country for press and dealer showroom stints. Kind of like when the convertable was released. MINI sent a few around to dealerships to display on a rotational basis before they started deliveries.
That’s all I have for now. At least that’s all I can share. ; )
